The Closure Orders were served to a range of food businesses, including butcher shops, retailers, and restaurants/cafés, across various locations in Ireland. For instance, the Navan Asian Store in Meath had its butcher counter and coldroom closed due to breaches of food safety legislation. Similarly, the Meat Stall Vehicle registration 172-C-2476 in Dublin was also closed for similar reasons.
The Prohibition Order was issued to the Meat Stall Vehicle registration 172-C-2476, trading at Balbriggan Market, Dublin, indicating a more severe breach of food safety standards.
The reasons for these Enforcement Orders are deeply concerning. They include failure to notify the competent authority of the establishment of a food business, evidence of pest infestations, rodent activity, inadequate hand washing facilities, and poor hygiene practices. For example, the presence of live cockroaches, slugs, spiders, and woodlice in food preparation areas, as well as rodent droppings on shelving and food packaging, are major red flags.
